PHOENIX -- Liquidation sales may not be the bargain they seem to be, a CBS 5 News investigation found.Hidden cameras taken to local Linens 'N Things found several items with prices crossed out -- and higher prices put in their place.A king comforter set was originally $199; its price was raised to $219, but with a 25 percent discount.Another lamp was 30 percent off the sticker price of $39.99 -- not the crossed-out price of $19.99.A representative of Linens 'N Things said the stores were turned over to a liquidator after the chain filed for bankruptcy. The liquidators set prices and discounts.A representative for the liquidator said the company does "not come into a closing store and raise prices before applying a discount. We apply discounts to the store's everyday prices."The stores in question may have held clearance sales prior to the liquidators' involvement, the representative said. Employees may have placed the new sticker over the old one when prices changed back.
