A 30-year-old Mesa resident has been sentenced to 6 1/2 years in prison for aggravated identity theft.

The judge also ordered Crystal Wright serve two years of probation and pay financial restitution.

Wright was arrested in March at a Chandler Wal-Mart while attempting to pick up merchandise fraudulently purchased online with a stolen credit card number, the Maricopa County attorney's office said.

Wright provided the driver's license of Margaret Farnsworth and was booked in as Margaret Farnsworth and released the next day, according to a Tempe Police probable cause statement.

A short time later, the real Margaret Farnsworth was contacted by a friend who told her that there was a small crime story in a local newspaper that said Margaret Farnsworth had been arrested for this attempted theft incident, the statement said.

Police ultimately identified the Wal-Mart suspect as Wright and she was apprehended.

The total amount charged to the victim's account was $7,852, the probable cause statement said.
