PHOENIX -- A man is in custody after trying to assault an officer just after midnight Monday, authorities said.Officers arrested Jack W. Blurton after they responded to a report of a man with a knife and a grenade at Groggy's Bar in Mesa, Mesa police spokeswoman Diana Tapia said.Blurton originally ran from the officers, and one of them caught up with him in a dirt lot, Tapia said. The two fought, and officers took the suspect into custody after deploying a Taser on him three times, Tapia said. The first two times the officer used the Taser, it was ineffective, Tapia said.Blurton had several knives on him, as well as a red decorative light bulb that resembled a grenade, Tapia said.No officers were injured, and Blurton was arrested on charges of assault and aggravated assault on a police officer.
