GOLDEN VALLEY, Ariz. -- A Northern California woman has been extradited to Arizona in the Mesa killing of a her former boyfriend.

A grand jury has indicted Jodi Arias, 28, of Yreka, on first-degree murder charges in the death of Travis Alexander, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said Tuesday in a statement.

The statement said that Arias was indicted July 9, which was her birthday. She was arrested July 15 but the indictment had to be sealed, according to the statement, until Arias was extradited to Maricopa County.

Alexander's body, which had been stabbed and shot, was found by friends in his Mesa apartment on June 9.

"The victim's family deserves justice," said County Attorney Andrew Thomas. "Our office will work to make sure that happens."

Alexander was the executive director of PrePaid Legal Services as well as a motivational speaker.

Arias's MySpace page was filled with tributes to her 30-year-old former boyfriend.
