Search Under Way For Iraq War Vet

Authorities Find Missing Man's Vehicle Burned

POSTED: 10:55 am MST September 5, 2008

An Iraq war veteran has been missing since Aug. 28, deputies said.

The Gila County Sheriff's Office said Aaron Anthony Tierno, 30, disappeared at some point that morning.

According to Ralph Tierno, the missing person's brother, Aaron Tierno finished his shift at an APS construction site near the El Maguey mobile home park in Miami and headed toward Globe "to get something to eat or drink." He never arrived home.

Authorities later found Aaron Tierno's white 2000 Isuzu Amigo on the San Carlos Indian Reservation, east of Globe, deputies said. The vehicle was completely burned.

Tierno, a U.S. Army veteran and an Airborne Ranger, is 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes, and Ralph Tierno describes him as a very friendly, kind and responsible person who is loved by everyone.

Authorities planned to conduct an extensive grid search on Friday.

The public is urged to contact the Gila County Sheriff's Office dispatch at 928-425-4449 with any information or leads.
