PHOENIX -- A 2-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool on South 50th Drive Saturday morning, Phoenix police said.

The victim's name was not released.

Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said around 8 a.m., officers and fire personnel rushed to the home in the 8400 block of South 50th Drive.

When they arrived and found the victim, he was airlifted to the hospital, where he later died.

"The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated," Thompson said.
