Police: Radio Caller Killed Boyfriend

POSTED: 9:23 am MST August 8, 2008
UPDATED: 9:38 am MST August 8, 2008

Phoenix police said they have identified a suspect in a seven-year-old Valley murder case.

The case made national headlines when Megan Vice, 30, confessed on Tom Leykis' radio show Nov. 3, 2006.

Police said Vice called the show, telling Leykis she killed her boyfriend.

"[I shot him] with his own 9 mm right in the heart, and, you know, I'm a nurse so I know right where to aim," the caller said.

Police said they spent nearly two years combing phone records and old case files before connecting the call to the 7-year-old death of Tortsen "Carl Rockwood" at a North Phoenix apartment.

Vice was a witness in that case, which police believed to be a suicide at that time, officers said.

Vice denied killing Rockwood to police and CBS 5, but investigators said she admitted to making the call to the radio show.

The day after the call went live on the radio, Vice filed a police report, claiming her phone was stolen from her car while she was at a neighborhood park, police said.

She has not been arrested; however, police confirmed they are seeking a first-degree murder charge. The Maricopa County Attorney will decide whether she will face charges.
