UPDATED: 5:18 pm MST July 29, 2008

A former community college student accused of shooting three people in the school's computer lab has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault.

Rodney Smith Jr., 22, was arrested last week after, police said, he opened fire at South Mountain Community College while arguing with another man.

The county attorney's office said "additional charges may be forthcoming."

According to a Phoenix police probable cause statement, officers responded to several radio calls reporting a shooting on Thursday in the Technology Center at the college.

Arriving officers said they found three people with gunshot wounds.

Smith was arrested at his home after officers were sent there to investigate, the statement said.

After a search warrant was served, police discovered a 9 mm handgun, holster and ammunition, the statement said.

Smith’s bond was set at $200,000 cash.

On Monday, students, faculty and staff returned to campus for the first time since Thursday's shooting.

The computer lab where the shooting took place remained closed, even though there is no visible sign of the violence.

"It felt a little bit tentative," said staff member Rob Price. "Some staff was visibly shaken."

Price said the day began with a campus-wide meeting to brief everyone on the situation.

College officials said counselors will be available on campus all week to help students.
