The remnants of Hurricane Dolly could possibly lash parts of Arizona this weekend with potentially prolonged rainfall, Weather Watch 5 meteorologists said.

Dolly made landfall late Wednesday morning near South Padre Island in Texas. The remnants continued to move into northeast Mexico on Friday, bringing with them abundant moisture and cloudiness.

The leading edge of the rainfall was moving over far West Texas and southeast New Mexico, Weather Watch 5 meteorologists said.

The movement, in combination with a low pressure system in northwest Mexico, will likely bring an increase in showers and thunderstorms across central and south-central Arizona on Saturday and Sunday, said CBS 5 meteoroloigist Steve Garry.

"The surge of moisture from Dolly will definitely help to enhance the monsoon," said CBS 5 News meteorologist Steve Garry. "Specific amounts of rainfall forecast for the Valley indicate that the heaviest showers should be in the east Valley, but thunderstorm development over the mountains north and west of Phoenix could also lead to some heavy downpours in other parts of the Valley."

"Given the scenario, it's best to check the latest live forecast on CBS 5 News," Garry said.

Rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible over south-central Arizona, with isolated amounts up to 2 inches in the higher terrain east of Phoenix, Garry said.

Stronger thunderstorms could trigger locally heavy rainfall, leading to flooding of roads, streams and washes, forecasters said.

"So far, the models are indicating the best chance of rain will be Saturday afternoon into Sunday, but other models are in disagreement," said CBS 5 Chief Meteorologist Sean McLaughlin.

He said stayed tuned to CBS 5 News and the Weather Now live stream for the latest updates.
