Rapper Indicted On Felony Theft Charges

PHOENIX -- Rapper DMX has been indicted on felony charges for allegedly trying to get out of medical expenses.Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas said Tuesday a grand jury has charged DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, with one count of theft and one count of taking someone else's identity.Authorities said the 37-year-old Simmons went to Scottsdale's Mayo Clinic in April complaining of shortness of breath and chest pains.He told staff his name was "Troy Jones." Documents in the name of Troy Jones were recovered from a search warrant and showed a non-existent Social Security number and an address in Yonkers, N.Y., authorities said.Simmons was arrested Saturday at a Phoenix mall.Simmons, a Phoenix resident, also was indicted on May 8 on 11 counts, including four related to the possession of drugs and its paraphernalia and seven counts concerning cruelty to animals.He was indicted again on May 21 on five additional counts related to possession of drugs and its paraphernalia.Simmons' attorney, Cameron Morgan, wasn't immediately available for comment Tuesday afternoon.
