UPDATED: 6:40 am MST May 17, 2008

A man with a history of violent crimes who hid in a motel attic in a six-hour standoff was caught after the structure caved in, Mesa police said.

Officers took Adam Boston into custody after they used a robot and cameras to find him.

The incident started when police tried to serve a warrant at the Regency Inn at 1302 W. Main in Mesa.

When police went into the room, Boston was gone, officers said.

Police found out he had escaped into the rafters when he partially fell through the ceiling of another room, investigators said.

The hotel was evacuated, and officers spent the next six hours trying to find him using a robot, cameras and finally pepper spray.
