CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Three women and a 15-year-old have been arrested in connection with store thefts in seven Valley cities, police said.On May 1, police arrested Florinda Sierra, Lorraine Sierra and Felicia Verduzco, along with a juvenile after they spent two hours stealing items from eight different stores from the Chandler Fashion Mall, investigators said.About $9,100 in stolen merchandise was also seized.Search warrants were served at four locations on Thursday that led to the discovery of $100,000 in stolen clothing.
The products included store tags and sensors still attached to each piece of clothing, police said. The clothing ranged from children sizes to adult sizes and included most major brand names, according to police. It is believed the merchandise was stolen from stores at stores in Chandler, Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Mesa and Tempe, police said."Normally, they went into a store, picked the items they want, and walked right out," said Detective Frank Mendoza of the Chandler Police Department.Detectives said they believe stealing and selling the stolen merchandise was the family's sole means of support."Highly-sophisticated, well thought out, and quick in and out," Mendoza said. They were charged with felony theft, shoplifting, trafficking in stolen property and operating a criminal syndicate. Police believe the women may be connected to a Phoenix-area street gang.Police said they think there are probably others involved in the shoplifting ring that spanned the entire Valley.
