PHEONIX -- Phoenix ranks eighth in the nation for having the least courteous drivers, according to an annual road rage survey from Auto Vantage, an auto club.
"We found that Americans define road rage as angry, out-of-control drivers -- drivers who lose their temper," said Todd Smith of Auto Vantage. "We fouind that they define bad or aggressive drivers as those who cut into your lane, cut people off, tailgate, speed and honk."
The survey found the most common distraction by Phoenix drivers that was observed by fellow drivers is talking on cell phones. The second was texting or e-mailing while behind the wheel."Americans weighed in on ways to combat road rage across America, including an increased police presence, limiting cell phone use, banning cell phone use, traffic cameras and launching a national awareness campaign," Smith said.Phoenix ranked sixth for rude drivers last year. This year, the least courteous drivers in the nation are in Miami, the most courteous in Pittsburgh. Some Valley drivers had their own gripes about drivers sharing the road. One man said drivers "are not paying attention, they're talking on the phone, putting on makeup."A woman went farther."Actually, people are changing their clothes, putting on pants and putting on their high heels," she said.Valley drivers offer some advice."Slow down, chill out, you'll get there," said a woman."Use your common sense. Keep your eyes on the road, just be a little more careful," said a man.
