PHOENIX -- A suspected burglar surrendered peacefully Tuesday afternoon after a police pursuit on some north Valley streets. It began as an officer was conducting surveillance on him near 62nd street and Greenway Road. The man jumped into a blue pick-up truck, attempted to ram the officer and then sped away, with police in pursuit.Newshawk 5 caught up with the chase near 44th Street and Union Hills Drive.Minutes later, police pulled out stop sticks and flattened two tires but the man kept going.
It was not a high-speed chase, as the driver slowed down near intersections and mostly stayed within the speed limit. On two occasions, he opened his door for some reason but never stopped. Then, on the Loop 101 frontage road at Seventh Avenue, another undercover officer boxed him in and the suspect gave up without any resistance.A number of officers with their weapons drawn took him into custody.
