Police Make Arrest In Bar Assault

PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- Police have arrested a 27-year-old Prescott man in connection with a bar fight that left the victim needing 50 stitches to close his wounds.Jesus Guevara was booked into Yavapai County Jail and charged with aggravated assault and attempted murder.Police said Joseph A. Mendibles, 37, was assaulted outside of a bar in the 600 block of Miller Valley Road in Prescott on May 8.Mendibles received several lacerations to his face, chest and neck, and suffered a broken arm, officers said.
Police said Guevara used a box cutter-style knife.Mendibles was transported to Yavapai Regional Medical Center. Investigators said he would not identify the suspect or the reason for the altercation.Prescott police investigators conducted follow-up and interviewed witnesses in the days following the assault, authorities said. They identified Guevara and arrested him on Monday.
