Kidnap Victim Rescued, 9 Arrested

PHOENIX -- The rescue of a kidnap victim at a south Phoenix home where nine people were arrested is believed tied to Monday's burned body case, police say.The kidnap victim's name has not yet been released.Officers said the incident is related to the discovery Monday of a burned body in a Dumpster in an alley near 4th Street and Broadway. Police said the victim had been shot and then set on fire.Investigators said they have been working around the clock on the death and learned that the victim had been kidnapped.
Their detective work led them to Thursday night's rescue of the second kidnapping victim at a home at 5622 South 11th Place, police said.They found a man in his 20s in an upstairs closet in the home who had been hogtied, gagged and beaten.Police said they took nine people into custody who are believed to be violent smugglers.A number of area police agenices plan to hold a news briefing on the incidents later Friday.
