MESA, Ariz. -- It was a pool party at a private home intended to protest a day of silence against the bullying of gays at a Mesa high school, but it turned into a confrontation.Desert Ridge student Jacob Bellino was getting ready for the party at his house Thursday night, when Mesa Police arrived and told him of a death threat."Well when someone threatens to kill me, I'm actually very nervous. I wasn't sure what to do," Jacob said.Jacob's surprised because he's not against gays."I'm not against any gays or lesbians," Jacob said. "I have actually many friends that are gay and lesbian."While some Desert Ridge High School students played volleyball in a fellow student's pool, homeowner Randy Bellino told us that someone sent a text message threatening to shoot his son."The Mesa Police Department's telling me that it seems to be the lesbian group that's called GLAS over at Desert Ridge," said Bellino.Mesa police couldn't verify the threat.Just after noon, a group of gay and lesbian students showed up and sat in silence across the street. They wouldn't talk, but wrote a statement for KTAR. In their written statement, the group denied making the threats. They then walked away, but police caught up with them a block away. They were allowed to leave following questioning. As for Jacob, he says his family is looking for another school for him to attend and that he won't be at Desert Ridge when the bell rings on Monday.
