Wanted Man Turns Himself In

UPDATED: 12:57 pm MST April 24, 2008

A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting turned himself in Wednesday night, Phoenix police said.

Luis Escobedo, 23, was present when 19-year-old Eli Olvera was shot to death last Friday, according to police. Escobedo was wanted on an unrelated felony warrant but was not considered a suspect in Olvera's death.

Escobedo said heightened media attention spurred him to turn himself in, according to police. He was booked into jail on the outstanding felony warrant.

One of three suspects in Olvera's death was arrested Monday in El Paso, Texas as he tried to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. Police initially said 20-year-old Tomas Nava was arrested as he tried to cross into Mexico, but investigators now say Nava was actually returning from Mexico because of media attention.

Two additional suspects, 21-year-old Raul Nava and a man known only as "Danny," are wanted on suspicion of second-degree murder in Olvera's death.

Danny is described as a Hispanic man with tattoos on each forearm. One says "Phoenix" and the other says "Arizona." He is 6 feet tall and 250 pounds.

Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts is asked to call Phoenix police at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
