Police: Teens Injured In YouTube Stunt

PEORIA, Ariz. -- Two Peoria teens trying to film a car stunt to post on the Internet were injured Saturday when their vehicle hit several trees and rolled over.John Hock, 16, told some friends to follow him with a cell phone camera Saturday night as he drove north on 91st Avenue. Police said Hock planned to accelerate his 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse to speeds of 70 to 85 mph as he reached the intersection of Beardsley Road, which would send his car airborne.Hock's friends later told police he planned to post the video on YouTube.com.As Hock reached the intersection, however, he lost control of the car. The Eclipse went off the road, struck several trees and rolled over.Police said Hock was ejected from the vehicle. His passenger, 17-year-old Laura Melton, was helped out by friends.Hock was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Police said Melton's injuries were not life-threatening.Hock's friends told investigators they did not film the stunt because they were afraid of his high speeds.The past week has been a dangerous one for teens on Valley streets.On Wednesday, two teens were killed and nine hospitalized in two separate wrecks. The first happened near Sky Harbor Airport when a sport utility vehicle carrying seven teens rolled off the road. Several were ejected and one died.In the second wreck Wednesday, an SUV carrying four teens crashed in Gilbert. Two were ejected and one died.On Thursday morning, two teens were injured when their car hit a train in Florence.
