QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. -- A Queen Creek man accused of starving his dog to the point where its hip bone protruded through its skin has been arrested.William White, 33, was taken into custody Sunday night on suspicion of felony animal cruelty and for a probation violation.White's arrest came two days after sheriff's deputies went to White's home and found the dog scavenging for food in a neighbor's yard.Authorities say his dog, an Irish Wolfhound, weighed only 32 pounds. The dog was infested with ticks and was scavenging for food in a neighbor's yard. The breed usually weighs at least 90 pounds, but can get up to 180 pounds.Authorities took the dog to a contracted vet clinic in Phoenix, where it is receiving medical treatment under close supervision."My policy is to book directly into jail those arrested for animal abuse, regardless of whoever the suspect might be," said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. "I will continue to crack down on people who abuse animals."
