Police: Students Suspended Over 'Death List'

UPDATED: 5:17 pm MST April 14, 2008

Two middle school students made a "death list" that included school administrators and the creator of "Barney," Florence police said.

School officials discovered the list April 9 and called police.

Investigators said the 11-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl each had a copy of the document, which listed names of people they both disliked.

"They were both in the 7th grade," Florence Police Department detective Walt Hunter said.

On it were the names of about 25 fellow students, school officials and the creator of the big purple dinosaur popular among preschoolers, Hunter said.

School administrators immediately suspended the students and notified the parents of children whose names appeared on the list.

"Do we think there was any danger of someone being injured of killed? We really don't," said Larry Cline of the Florence Unified School Dist No. 1.

Florence police officers were assigned to the school to safeguard the students and an investigation is under way.
