Illegal Immigrant Found With Stolen IDs

An illegal immigrant has been arrested in northern Arizona after stealing the identity of a woman who lives in Toltec.

Deputies found a Social Security card that did not belong to the immigrant after they made a traffic stop near Seligman, said Dwight D'Evelyn with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

They said he eventually admitted he had bought bogus IDs in Phoenix in an apparent attempt to circumvent Arizona's employers sanctions law.

Authorities were able to talk to the woman.

"The ability to contact her and give her a heads up that her number's out there and has been stolen is important so she can take preventative measures to protect her Social Security number and/or replace it," said D'Evelyn.

D`Evelyn said, based on what was found during the traffic stop, investigators believe the suspect also had a second stolen Social Security number and they need to find that victim.

"Once they (illegals) gain employment using these numbers, if they're not checked by the employer, then financial aspects and the identity goes back against the person who owns that Social Security number, so it becomes a real problem for the true owner of that number," he said.
