PHOENIX -- Attired in pink underwear and black and white strips, a DUI chain gang will promote safety in a humorous way on the days leading up to the Super Bowl in Glendale. The DUI chain gang, formed by Maricopa Country Sheriff Joe Arpaio, will stand roadside cleaning and holding up signs warning fans not to drink and drive during game week. The signs include slogans such as "Bowl Fans: Drive and Drink and You'll wear Pink" and "Ladies: Horizontal stripes will make you look fat! So do not drink & drive."The pink is reference to the notorious pink boxers Arpaio issues in jail to keep underwear from being stolen by inmates and the pink T-shirts worn by the chain gang.Arpaio said he believes using wittiness to promote awareness will provide fans with a warning that will stick."I think humor is a good way for the DUI Chain Gang to get a message across to Super Bowl fans," said Arpaio. The chain gangs will be posted on major roadways leading to The University of Phoenix Stadium for four days prior to the event.
