CPS Case Worker Admits Credit Card Fraud

UPDATED: 4:57 pm MST December 20, 2007

A Child Protective Services case worker went on an online shopping spree, buying thousands of dollars in merchandise with nearly 40 stolen credit card numbers, investigators said.

Jennifer White, 31, was arrested Friday.

Court records show White admitted to using stolen American Express numbers she obtained in an online chat room to buy the merchandise.

Police said they caught up with White after she bought a $154 pair of jeans online and investigators were able to track the delivery to her home.

White said she "knew what she was doing was wrong but she was low on money," according to court paperwork.

White has been a CPS case worker since 2002, but is now on paid leave. CPS said it could not comment on the investigation.

Because White was arrested on felony charges, her state fingerprint clearance card has been suspended, which means she is currently unable to work with children.
