Reward Doubles For Chandler Rapist

POSTED: 5:31 am MST December 5, 2007
UPDATED: 4:20 pm MST December 5, 2007

The reward money jumps to $50,000 for a tip that helps catch the Chandler rapist, police say.

"While the money may not be the answer, we'll do what it takes," said Sherry Kiyler, Chandler police chief.

The announcement came at a public forum Tuesday night held at Andersen Junior High School to address residents' concerns.

A serial rapist has struck five times in Chandler since June 2006.

Police believe he may have been responsible for a Nov. 8 attack on a 15-year-old girl based on the suspect description and circumstances of the incident, which were similar to previous attacks.

Police investigators are working to identify physical evidence obtained at the scene, said Lt. Vance Lund, supervisor of the detectives working on the case. Police have not yet confirmed whether the man in the Nov. 8 attack is the rapist.

The rapes of four girls and the attempted rape of two others, all ages 12 to 14, have been connected in the case, police said.

To be eligible for the $50,000 reward, the tip that leads to an arrest must be made to 480-WITNESS or 1-800-343-TIPS-8477, police said.
