30 Found At Drop House

POSTED: 4:27 pm MST November 10, 2007
UPDATED: 6:54 am MST November 11, 2007

Phoenix police said they found roughly 30 illegal immigrants in a west Valley drop house Saturday.

Police said a woman escaped from the house near 103rd Avenue and Indian School Road shortly after noon and went to a nearby apartment complex to call police. She arranged to meet officers at a nearby 7-Eleven.

While police were talking to the woman at the 7-Eleven, two of the smugglers came looking for her, officers said. Police arrested them and went to the drop house, where they said they found between 25 and 30 illegal immigrants.

One person was bound and gagged in a closet and most of the immigrants had no shoes, police said.

Seven suspected smugglers were taken into custody. Sgt. Andy Hill said they would be charged with human smuggling, kidnapping and assault.
