  • Every year thousands of people attend the Hell City Tattoo Festival to be inked by the world's best artists.

Artists and exhibitors flocked to Phoenix from places like New York, Connecticut and Michigan.

Many attendees said they enjoyed the company of others in the tattoo community.

One of the highlights, the art fusion experiment, involved between three to five artists collaborating, changing canvases every three to five minutes and completing pieces of art done in charcoal, color pastels, or other mediums.

    Designs Judged In Fierce Competitions

A number of seminars were held, including one that focuses on the fundamentals of what makes a tattoo look real.

The event was also an industry trade show covering body modification in all forms, from historical to futuristic.

Around one million tattoo photos from attending artists and tattoo competitions were available to view.

Organizers said many people turned out just to enter the many competitions, ranging from best backpiece tattoo to best portrait. There's also a competition for worst tattoo.

The festival took place in the Frank Lloyd Wright ballroom at the Biltmore Resort & Spa.
