KTVK Statement

KTVK issued a press release Friday after the crash:

"KTVK President and General Manager, Mark Higgins, issued the following statement Friday after KTVK's news helicopter was involved in a mid-air collision with KNXV's news chopper resulting in four fatalities.

"'At times like this, words really do fail to express the sadness we at 3TV, Arizona's Family, feel about the loss of our colleagues and friends, Scott Bowerbank and Jim Cox; and, Rick Krolak and Craig Smith of KNXV. Our deepest sympathy is extended to their families and friends for their immeasurable loss. Our thoughts are also with KNXV who is experiencing the same heart-wrenching grief.'

"Higgins added that the newsgathering business is a very small world and, though there is friendly competition, the photojournalists and reporters know each other well.

"'Our station lost four family members today and our news team is devastated by the loss of these four professionals.'

"Helicopter pilot Scott Bowerbank had worked with KTVK for 12 years. Jim Cox started his photojournalism career with KTVK in January of 1995 and was a graduate of Camelback High School. Rick Krolak, KNXV photojournalist, spent 10 years as a member of the KTVK news team. KNXV pilot Craig Smith also died in the crash.

"Higgins said, 'Our sincere appreciation goes out to our community who has reached out to us at this difficult time. We can't thank you enough for the flowers, condolences and prayers.'"
