PHOENIX -- A US Airways jet had to abort its landing at Sky Harbor Airport on Thursday because a dog was running loose on the runway.
VIDEO: CBS 5 News Wrapup The dog, which appeared to be a stray, turned up on the runways on the south side of the airport around 5:45 a.m.The dog ran across both runways, eluding airport security workers as they chased it in vehicles and on foot.
Just as the plane was about to touch down, air traffic controllers told the pilot of a US Airways jet to circle around again because the dog was still on the runway.The dog ran to the Southwest Airlines portion of Terminal Four and disappeared into the baggage handlers' part of the building.The pesky pooch appeared to have been caught, but turned up again a short while later on the north side of the terminal.The dog then made the rounds of the maintenance facilities before returning to the Southwest section of Terminal Four.Security workers caught the dog as it darted between Southwest jets near gate C-12.A Sky Harbor spokeswoman said the dog, which was turned over to Animal Control, was exhausted after its early-morning jaunt.ELSEWHERE ON KPHO.COM: At least a dozen Phoenix civil servants -- police officers and firefighters -- are under investigation in a federal probe for alleged criminal use of anabolic steroids, CBS 5 Investigates has learned.
