DPS: Driver Hit Patrol Car While Text Messaging

PHOENIX -- The Department of Public Safety said a driver who crashed into the back of an officer's patrol car Tuesday night was text messaging and may have been impaired.DPS said Sgt. Annette Reyes-Miller was providing traffic safety at a Department of Transportation construction site in the eastbound lanes of the Loop 202 near Gilbert Road.Shortly after midnight, Reyes-Miller was sitting in her marked patrol car with emergency lights flashing when a Chevrolet Blazer slammed directly into the back of the car, DPS said.The Blazer's driver, 22-year-old Jenna Meyers, of Gilbert, told officers she'd been text messaging, according to DPS. Officers believe she may have been impaired.Officials said charges are pending against Meyers.Reyes-Miller was treated at a nearby hospital for facial bruises and chest pain, according to DPS.
