Police: Payson Man Arrested With Meth, Explosives

PHOENIX -- A Payson man was arrested in Tempe on Tuesday, accused of hiding drugs and explosives in nearby bushes after crashing his car.Police said Adam Ellinger was involved in a single-vehicle crash at First and 48th Streets.Witnesses told police that they'd seen Ellinger removing property from his vehicle after the wreck and stowing it in the bushes just north of his car.A patrol officer located the property and said it appeared to be a container of meth and several 6 to 8-inch cylindrical objects that he believed were explosives.
The Bomb Unit was called in to handle the devices. Officers determined that the cylindrical objects were indeed explosives.Ellinger was arrested on various drug and weapons charges and booked into the Tempe City Jail.He will turn 40 on Thursday.
