Coach In Sex Abuse Case In Court

A substitute high school teacher and assistant track coach appeared in court on Friday and pleaded not guilty in connection with the sex abuse of a student.

The School Resource Officer at Saguaro High School was notified by the school staff on April 25 of an alleged incident involving Tom Porras and a 17-year-old student, officers said.

  • According to court paperwork, Porras invited the girl to his house to give her an athletic massage and watch videos of other athletes participating in the long jump.

    Porras allegedly told the girl to bring a swim suit and workout clothes.

    Porras is charged with a felony count of sexual abuse as well as one count of public sexual indecency and one count of assault.

    He will be back in court on July 3. He is under supervision on an electronic monitoring program.
