Bryan Hulsey, 33, was charged with Holly's death and held on $1 million bond. Investigators said Hulsey was armed with a .357-caliber Magnum revolver when Holly was killed.
Holly was a two-year veteran of the force. He is the first Glendale officer killed in the line of duty since 1985.Holly's funeral began at 10 a.m. at Christ's Church of the Valley near 67th Avenue and Happy Valley Road in Peoria.Bagpipes played prior to the service's start as Holly's casket was wheeled into the church. The service commenced with an opening prayer and song.Speakers at the two-hour service included Glendale Police Chief Steve Conrad and several members of Holly's family."It's through tragedies like these that we have to be stronger and more resolved in our efforts to comfort one another," Conrad said.Brother Jim Holly said one of Holly's tattoos eloquently summed up the code Anthony Holly lived by: "Live, love, serve, die.""That was Tony," Jim Holly said. "I miss him, but I know he's in Heaven."He choked up often as he recalled rocking his younger brother to sleep and how proud he was when he became a police officer."I don't think he ever knew how much I bragged about him," he said. The funeral procession affected traffic Friday morning when it began at 11:45 a.m. The motorcade headed south on 67th Avenue to the Loop 101 and exit the freeway at Seventh Street. The procession headed west on the frontage road to the Phoenix Memorial Cemetery on Beardsley Road.Anyone who wishes to show support for officer Holly and his family may visit the Officer Down Memorial Page, a Web site dedicated to fallen officers across the country.
