UPDATED: 5:46 am MST February 1, 2007

A 38-year-old student teacher at a Gilbert-area school has been arrested, accused of a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy.

Gilbert police said they arrested Jeri Deanne Perez on Tuesday evening following reports of a sexual relationship.

The incidents allegedly occurred on six separate occasions from November through December of 2006, police said.

The sexual conduct allegedly occurred at Perez' Gilbert home, according to officers. There was no indication that anything occurred on a school campus, police said.

Perez was introduced to the boy through her employment at South Valley Junior High School, where she taught seventh and eighth-grade science classes, officers said.

Police said Perez began working at the school as a class aide in August 2005 and began her stint as a student teacher there that September.

Officers said she was known to the victim's family through her employment.

The victim was attending Mesquite High School at the time and was never one of Perez' students at South Valley, officers said.

Officials at the junior high school sent a letter home to parents advising them of the situation.

Officers said the victim was able to identify that Perez had a tattoo on her lower abdomen and a pierced navel.

The Gilbert Police Department said it continues to work with the Gilbert-area schools to insure there are no other unreported incidents.
