PHOENIX -- A Mesa teen who's been missing since Wednesday has been found with a man in North Carolina, according to her mother.Silvana Miller said she took her daughter, 14-year-old Samanta Pellegrini, to school Wednesday, but Samanta never made it to class.Miller said her daughter instead took an American Airlines flight from Phoenix to Raleigh to be with a man she met on the popular social networking Web site MySpace.com.MySpace users can build profiles displaying pictures and personal information and then network with other users across the country or around the world.
Samanta's parents discovered that their daughter had been using two profiles on the Web site, one showing her real age and pictures, and another with fake pictures that said she was 21.Samanta's parents said they think she was using the fake profile to lure men.Samanta's cell phone records show 36 calls made in the three days before her disappearance to a phone number belonging to a 20-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. Her parents said the man is married, with one child and another on the way.Miller said she got a call Monday from police in North Carolina saying that Samanta has been found with a man at Camp Lejune. The pair is being questioned by police."I'm completely shook up because now I know she's alive, but I can't talk to her," Miller told CBS 5 News. "I can't get anything done, and I'm sitting around on hot coals waiting for a phone call again, as I did before."Police said Samanta's disappearance is a lesson to parents to make sure they know what their children are doing online. Some commercial online services offer parental controls that allow adults to block content that's inappropriate for children. Parents can also buy software that blocks Web sites by name and material. For more information about Internet safety, visit 2smart4u.com.
