PHOENIX -- Some very unusual dog houses will be auctioned off Wednesday night at the Tempe Improv Comedy Club and Dinner Theatre.Just in time for the holidays, dog lovers can bid on dog houses made by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Tent City inmates.Inmates constructed the houses using scrap material and a lot of imagination.Wednesday night's silent auction and comedy show will raise money for the sheriff's MASH unit -- the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Animal Safehouse.
MASH is located in the old First Avenue Jail and has housed literally hundreds of abused and neglected dogs and cats taken away from their owners by the sheriff's animal cruelty unit since opening five years ago.Wednesday's affair is called Comedy for Canines and is slated to run from 5 to 10 p.m. It will feature Arpaio and the antics of comedian Mark Cordes.
