It was a meeting a month in the making. A woman who needs a kidney to survive, and the complete stranger who wanted to give it to her.

One month ago Friday CBS 5 first shared Rita Van Loenen's story.

Van Loenen is in kidney failure. She needs dialysis three times a week to survive. But a transplant would change that.

Rita's last donor fell through. That's where Kay came in. She saw Rita's story on CBS 5 last month.

Free said, "I started tearing up and crying right there in my kitchen and I was like, 'oh my gosh,' and all of a sudden I just got chills up and down, head to toe, and something inside me is like, 'you have to help her,' and I said, ok ."

Free and Van Loenen have the same blood type, it's possible Kay is the match Rita's been looking for.

Van Loenen said, "I mean, my heart was lifted and my spirits were high and I think maybe that's why I feel as good as I do today, because I woke up this morning all excited because of this meeting."

We introduced Kay and Rita to get the ball rolling. Both are anxious to find out if Kay's kidney will work in Rita's body. Kay hopes to have the surgery over her kid's Christmas break.

Now it's up to doctors to determine if Kay's a match. Stick with CBS 5 for updates on this uplifting story.
