The flu season has started early in Arizona, according to numbers from the State Health Department.

The latest figures, from earlier this month, show 1,480 laboratory-confirmed cases of the flu.

The Centers for Disease Control says 99 percent of flu cases now are H1N1.

H1N1 was first identified in Arizona in April of this year and numbers have grown since then.

Updated flu numbers from both the state and Maricopa County are expected Wednesday.
