It sounds like a sugar lover's dream, but people around the country say the so-called "Cookie Diet" really works.

Linda Hoover said she tried numerous diets without results before stumbling upon the Cookie Diet. She's been eating six cookies a day for about a month and said she's lost 17 pounds.

The Cookie Diet is a program developed by Smart for Life Weight Management Centers, a company new to the Valley.

The cookies are packed with protein, which Dr. David Klein says helps with weight loss.

The key to the doctor-supervised diet, though, is low calories. Dieters consume about 800 calories a day, which includes six cookies plus a dinner of chicken, turkey or fish and a few handfuls of vegetables.

The program also includes ongoing education about how to keep the weight off.

Hoover said she wants to lose seven more pounds and that this is the diet she can do it with.

The Cookie Diet costs $249 to begin, which includes all tests and doctor's visits. The cookies cost $7 for a package of six.
