Professor Wrestling: The Podcast

Yak, Yak, Yak

POSTED: 10:25 am MST September 28, 2006

Listen up!

Class is in session.

Well, it's high time we added something new to this column. Over the past few months, you may have noticed in that sidebar thingy to the right ("Professor's Choice") that there's a few new links. One is dedicated to the wrestling photographs of Dr. Mike Lano, who I chatted with at length a few weeks ago. He was so good, I got two columns out of the deal. Part One is right here. Part Two is right here.

So I got to thinking: This guy has a zillion stories, I can yak a bit, so why don't we do a little 15-minute podcast every week in conjunction with the column? Not a bad idea, so that's what we're going to do.

It'll be called "Professor Wrestling: Old School, New School," and will focus on stuff from wrestling's glorious past as well as its unpredictable present. Also on the panel is George Schire, one of the greatest wrestling historians on the planet.

Oh yeah, there's also you. I plan on having readers of this column be involved in the show. It'll likely be someone different every week -- sort of a revolving door -- just to make it more fun. So if you're interested, send me an e-mail.

The format will be pretty simple. We'll start out by talking about something old school and something new school. We'll play a round of thumbs-up, thumbs-down on various wrestling topics, do a 30-second rant on a subject of our choice -- and then wrap it up. Hopefully, it'll be short and sweet.

So how do you get it? It's pretty easy. Just click right here. It'll also be featured in the "Professor's Choice" sidebar I mentioned earlier.

Back to why we're going this route. Well, I'm a bit of a podcast geek and I love listening to them while doing chores, driving or exercising. I've listened to a lot of wrestling-related podcasts, and I don't think there's a lot of consistent quality out there (among free downloads, at least). I'm not saying this podcast will set the world on fire, but it'll be fun to do and you just might like it. Give it a try.

Now scram!

Class dismissed!
