Professor Wrestling: 'Great American Bash' Results

POSTED: 11:25 am MST June 24, 2004

Listen up! Class is in session.

'The Great American Bash' is in the books, and as usual, your Professor did a fine job in predicting the outcomes...going three for five. Here's what happened:

John Cena vs. Booker T vs. Renee Dupree vs. Rob Van Dam for the U.S. title.

What will happen:
RVD and Dupree will waddle about the ring for far too long, allowing RVD a chance to run through all his moves and Renee a bit of deserved ring time. It will still come down to Booker and Cena, with Booker taking the title because, well, because. Booker is a deserving worker and it's hard to keep a babyface as champ for very long -- people like an underdog.
What did happen:
Cena hit Booker T. with an FU for the win after RVD and Dupree were eliminated. Cena retains his U.S. Heavyweight belt. Too bad, I thought Booker should have won it.

Undertaker vs. Dudleys in Concrete Crypt match.
What will happen:
Undertaker will win. Of course. Does anyone think this will not happen?
What did happen:
Untertaker wins with a clean pin, then "executes" the former Percy Pringle himself. UT turns heel for the great Paul Heyman.

Sable vs. Torrie
What will happen:
Sable will get the pin, as other scantily-clad divas interfere.
What did happen:
Sable wins with a yank of the tights. (What there were of them.)

Rey Mysterio Jr. vs. Chavo Guererro Jr. for WWE Cruiserweight title
What will happen:
I figured Chavo Classic would interfere to help his son Chavo win, but dad's reportedly been fired by the WWE for not going along with some of the gimmicks. Neverthless, Chavo will walk away with the belt which he deserves by birthright only.
What did happen:
Mysterio retains his belt by pinning Chavo. I missed this one by a mile.

JBL vs. Eddie Guererro in Texas Bull Rope Match for WWE Championship
What will happen:
JBL will take the belt off Eddie's hands for the summer. TV ratings are irrelevant during the summer months and JBL, with his years of dedicated service to the WWE and quality microphone skills, is deserving of the opportunity to carry the gold for a while.
What did happen:
JBL wins the WWE title by covering four corners before Eddie could. He's the new champ. (Until SummerSlam.) And class, I'm sorry...BUT I NAILED THIS ONE! Let's all thank CNBC for creating the monster that is Bradshaw.

OK, so there you have it: five predictions, three correct. I would have had a thought or two on the other meaningless contests on the card, BUT THEY WEREN'T ANNOUNCED AS OF SMACKDOWN TIME! Man, that ticks me off.

Now to our little contest. A lot of times, I get readers who write to say that I have no idea of how pro wrestling works, and I should be stripped of my mask. That's fine, but if you can make better predictions on big pay-per-view matches, I want to know why. The reader that can convince me -- in 50 words or less -- that they do it better, will be writing this very same prediction column the Friday before SummerSlam! All you have to do to enter is enter right here.

Yes, that's a challenge. Start writing. And when you're done, send 'em here. Again, we're shooting for SummerSlam. The winner gets to write the column. Pretty simple, so start pushin' that pencil.

Class dismissed.
