Local Filmmakers To Screen Latest Work

Several local filmmakers whose works have been screened at the Sundance Film Festival will unveil their latest production next week.

The film "Now Would Be A Good Time" has been two years in the making and is the creation of Ernie Quiroz, co-producer and co-writer; Justin Koleszar, director, co-writer and co-producer; and Spencer Goold, director of photography.

"We shot the film mostly here in Arizona in August of last year," Quiroz said. "It represents our first project in HD."

The romantic dramedy centers around 24-year-old Jason, who moves back home and tries his best to figure out his post-college life. With most of his friends married and productive members of the workforce, Jason latches onto Victor, 31, an old acquaintance who still lives at home and parties like there's no tomorrow.

Jason drags himself out of bed for his miserable job, trying to forget that his longtime girlfriend, Allison, has just dumped him. He soon finds himself falling for Victor's visiting and married cousin Audrey.

"Justin and I first began writing the script in November of 2006," Quiroz said. "We'd e-mail each other ideas, scenes, bits of dialogue, going back and forth for nearly 10 months."

Screening for the film will be held Thursday, Oct 30 at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. at Pollack Tempe Cinemas, 1825 E. Elliot in Tempe.

"At first, we we're just going to have a screening for the cast and crew, but then we had so many people on our MySpace and Facebook pages wanting to see it, we decided to rent a theater and screen it there," Quiroz said.

Admission is $9.

Quiroz has produced two projects -- a short and a feature -- that have screened at the Sundance Film Festival and the Phoenix Film festival. He attended Scottsdale Community College, where he studied film. He is currently finishing his film and media studies degree at ASU.

Koleszar studied film at SCC and graduated with a degree in History from ASU. The latest film marks his feature film directorial debut.

Goold graduated from the Art Institute in Phoenix with a degree in filmmaking.
