NEW YORK -- Sarah Silverman said that she is still is defending herself over her Britney Spears jokes at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this month.Silverman told Us Weekly the joke people were upset about was her calling the Spears' two children with ex-husband Kevin Federline "the most adorable mistakes you'll ever see."The jokes came after Spears' much maligned performance to open the show.Silverman said it never occurred to her that would be deemed "hurtful or over the line," and called it "the most innocuous joke."The performer also said that she's in her profession for the laughter."I don't want to get into feuds with girls half my age," Silverman said. "I'm in it to be funny and not for the drama. It's embarrassing."Spears isn't the first high-profile celebrity that Silverman's taken to task at an awards show.Just hours before she checked into jail for a probation violation, Paris Hilton felt the wrath of Silverman's humor at the MTV Movie Awards in June.In her opening monologue, Silverman reminded the crowd that Hilton was going to jail soon, and the crowd erupted in laughter and applause.Silverman also made crude jokes at Hilton's expense, pointing out that the bars on her jail cell would be painted to resemble a part of the male anatomy. In two cutaway shots after Silverman's barbs, Hilton had looks of disgust.
