A kidney donor is on a mission to help a woman find a kidney.

Mike Battmer plans to carry signs through the streets of downtown Phoenix in an effort to find a kidney for Risa Simon.

Simon, who has polycystic kidney disease and type-O blood, originally planned to receive a kidney from her mother's friend, a store clerk in Surprise; she nominated Schultz to receive $500 from the CBS 5 News Pay It Forward contest.

After extensive screenings, Pam Schultz was not a match.

Nevertheless, Schultz inspired Simon to start KidneyKinships.org, which encourages people to become living donors to the more than 86,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant.

After hearing her story, Battmer, who has already donated a kidney, decided it was time to act.

"If I can (donate a kidney), anybody else can do it," he said.

Simon said she appreciates his message.

"I would love to get that message out to help more people -- not just me," she said.
