Reach Out And Read

Southwest Human Development's Reach Out and Read program promotes early literacy by bringing new books and advice about the importance of reading aloud into the pediatric exam room.

Reach Out and Read targets children who are growing up in poverty and are often at risk for reading and school failure.

Reach Out and Read is seeking volunteers to read to young children in well-child pediatric clinics. Volunteers are needed Valley-wide, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Volunteers must meet clinic requirements such as proof of immunizations and a current TB test. English Language Learners and bilingual Spanish speakers are encouraged to sign up. Volunteer training is provided.
